Another good turnout this week, with several new faces adding to the numbers. A few who were there last week had warned they might be unable to make it this time, but we hope we'll see them all again next week.
Visiting us this week were Kumkum Nayyar and some members of her Slovak girls group, who also meet at the Govanhill Neighbourhood Centre. They sang some Slovak songs for us as well as joining in the songs were learning: a Hebrew round, "Zum gali gali"; the Congolese rowing song we began last week, "Olele moliba makasi"; and a Slovak lullaby called "Dobrú noc ma mila". All the songs we learn will appear on the Govanhill Voices website at http://www.voicebeat.org/govanhill-voices.html, with lyrics, translations, scores (sheet music, or "dots" as it's sometimes known, for those who want it to look at at home), rehearsal recordings and links to other people's performances on YouTube.
What will we sing next week? Only time will tell! Come along and find out!
Govanhill Voices is a band new community choir that meets on Thursday from 7.30 to 9.30pm at the Govanhill Neighbourhood Centre, 6 Daisy Street G42 8JL. It's free and anyone is welcome.
